Description |
Heavy tabletop coffee grinder, said to be from Dunstan Brothers Store in Fall City. The store was closed in 1929, when River Street was widened and the building was torn down. Donated to Tolt Hist Soc (Item #: 284/58) some time ago (no date given) by Bill Baxter. Tolt Hist Soc passed it on to Fall City in 2010. Grinder is fastened to a sturdy wooden table (14"d x 34"w x 18"h), built for the Tolt Hist Soc. Overall height of grinder 26.5", grinding wheels are 19.5" in diameter. (A long bolt, painted red, was placed through the two wheels by the Tolt Hist Soc, for safety reasons, to keep the heavy wheels from being turned when it was on display.) On each wheel, it says "SWIFT MILL, LANE BROTHERS, POUGHKEEPSIE, NY". On the body of the grinder, it says "PAT'D FEB 9 1875" Lid to grinder is missing, and a WEAR EVER lid, printed red to match, has been substituted. Drawer to catch ground coffee is missing. |
