Title |
Hand bell used in one-room Fall City school |
Description |
Wood handled bell said to have been from a "one-room school" in Fall City. Given to donor by her grandmother, Hazel Moore, daughter of Ben Moore. Not clear which school is meant. Hazel Moore was in the Class of 1931, so she would have spent her school years at the Brick School, and the preceding school, the Brown School had several rooms. The White School (used 1890-1900) was a one-room school which preceded the Brown School. But Hazel's father, Ben Moore, and his brother Albert Moore attended the Patterson Creek School (used 1885-1916), also one-room. Photos of these two schools are attached. Bell is sturdy, but may have been repaired. The wood of the handle has broken off around the area where it meets the metal bell, and the central metal post may have been replaced, now showing a four-sided nut at the top. There is a white "paint smear partial finger print" near the top of the handle. |
