History of Snoqualmie Valley Lutheran Church School |
Description |
After speaking with Judy Olson, Marilyn Zimmerman McManus, daughter of Pastor Elmer Zimmerman of the Snoqualmie Valley Lutheran Church, which was located at 8550 Meadowbrook Way and attended by several Fall City Students. (The church was sometimes called the Evangelical Lutheran Church.) In summary: Pastor Elmer Zimmerman graduated from the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1929 and served his first call at Palouse, WA. He married Leona Acuff in 1932 and moved to Leavenworth, WA, where Marilyn was born in 1934. In November 1937 they moved to the Snoqualmie Valley, where Pastor Zimmerman was called to start a church with a group of people from the Dakotas. He drew up the plans for the church/parsonage combination and built it with the members for $3500 at 8550 Meadowbrook Way. The Sanctuary was to be built later, but was never accomplished. Worship was held in the Social Hall. Until the building was finished, church and Sunday School were held in a basement room of the Community Hall in Snoqualmie Falls. In 1942 the average church attendence was 56. In 1943 it grew considerably. The parochial school was started in the Fall of 1945, taught by Rev. Zimmerman until the first teacher, Miss Kuske, was hired. Grades 1-8 were taught. Later teachers are listed. In May 1950, the Zimmerman family left the Valley for Omak, WA, where he was asked to draw plans and build another church/parsonage combination. Many other of Marilyn's memories are included in the long letter. A complete transcription of the letter is included as a pdf. |
